Right to emergency treatment in Slovenia
Citizens of the European Union, of the European Economic Area and of Switzerland enforce the right to emergency or necessary health care services in Slovenia on the basis of the European Health Insurance Card, which they must obtain in their country before leaving for Slovenia. A foreign insured individual has the right to the European Health Insurance Card in the country in which they have arranged compulsory health insurance. The European Health Insurance Card can be used to access health care services necessary for medical reasons, taking into consideration the nature of services and the expected length of stay in Slovenia, directly with medical practitioners and health care institutions which are part of the public, national health care network.
If the insured individual pays for the emergency health care services performed in Slovenia, they are entitled to the reimbursement of costs in the country of permanent residence, according to the method and procedure valid in the country of permanent residence.
